S-a nãscut în South Shields, Northumberland, Anglia. Crescut în Londra, Cumbria, Tara Galilor si Germania, el s-a întors în Anglia de Nord Est pentru a locui în Stockton-on-Tees. A studiat la West Hartle Pool College of Art unde a excelat în graficã si picturã. A mai studiat la Royal Academy of Art, unde a mai învãtat si David Hockney. Acolo Scott a fãcut primul sãu scurt-metraj.

Absolvind cu brio, Scott a fost premiat cu o bursã de cãlãtorie în statele Unite pentru un an de zile. În acea perioadã, el a fost angajat de Time Life Inc. unde a lucrat cu realizatorii de documentare Richard Leacock si D.A. Pennebaker. La revenirea sa în Marea Britanie, s-a alãturat postului BBC în calitate de scenograf si, în mai putin de un an, fost promovat în echipa lor de regizori.

Dupã 3 ani de zile, a plecat pentru a-si forma propria companie RSA, care în curând a devenit una dintre cele mai de succes case de productie din Europa. De-a lungul anilor el a regizat peste 2000 de filme publicitare, o mare parte din ele fiind premiate la Festivalurile de Film de la Venetia si Cannes, fiind premiate si de New York Art Directors’ Club. În paralel cu munca sa la filme, Scott a rãmas implicat si la RSA. Având birouri în New York, Londra si Los Angeles, RSA colaboreazã cu cei mai apreciati regizori din industria de publicitate.

Scott si-a fãcut debutul in lung-metraj, la filmul The Duellists, care i-a adus Premiul Juriului la Festivalul de la Cannes în 1978. Cel de-al doilea film al sãu a fost succesul Alien, care a luat premiul Oscar pentru ’Efecte speciale’. Acesta a fost urmat de un film care a fost considerat unul dintre filmele SF de referintã din toate timpurile, Blade Runner, cu Harrison Ford. Alte filme: Legend cu Tom Cruise, Someone to Watch Over Me cu Tom Berenger si Black Rain cu Michael Douglas si Andy Garcia.

În 1987, Scott a fondat compania Percy Main Productions pentru a dezvolta si produce filme de lung-metraj. Primul film al companiei Percy Main a fost câstigãtorul premiului Oscar Thelma and Louise, cu Susan Sarandon si Geena Davis, urmat de 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1492: Cucerirea paradisului) cu Gerard Depardieu în rolul Cristofor Columb, ambele fiind regizate de Scott. Scott a mai produs filmul The Browning Version (r. Mike Figgis) cu Albert Finney si Greta Scacchi.

În 1995, Scott, împreunã cu fratele sãu Tony, au fondat compania Scott Free Productions, o companie de productie pentru film si televiziune. Scott Free a produs lung-metraje ca White Squall, cu Jeff Bridges si G.I. Jane, cu Demi Moore, ambele fiind regizate de Ridley Scott. El a mai produs Clay Pigeons, cu Vince Vaughn si Where the Money Is cu Paul Newman. Scott Free a mai produs The Hunger, un serial de antologie pentru Showtime distins cu premiul CableAce. Scott a mai produs lung-metrajul RKO 281 pentru HBO film distins cu premiul Globul de Aur în care apãreau Liev Schreiber, James Cromwell si Melanie Griffith.

Ridley Scott este co-presedinte al Pinewood-Shepperton Holdings Limited care detine Shepperton Studios si Pinewood Studios. Ridley Scott este co-presedinte al The Mill, una dintre cele mai mari case de productie digitalã si post productie din Londra.

Dupa atatea nominalizari la oscar sunt sigura ca il va lua pana la urma.
Este un regizor care si-a pus amprenta asupra fiecarui film in parte. Preferatele mele sunt :Body of Lies, A Good Year, Hannibal, Gladiator si Thelma and Louise.

o minte care a creat unele dintre cele mai bune filme din toata industria asta cinematografica unde vorbele "mult si prost" sunt ca un motto pt cei de la Hollywood.

ridley scott este magistral in ceea ce face... creeaza o imagine iesita din comun... de departe merita oscarul pt Black Hawk Down (elicopter la pamant)... dar s-a facut o nedreptate... in fine sper sa revina cu un bolckbuster cum ne-a obisnuit:)

Una calda, una rece.
Cel mai slab film al maestrului, obosit dupa zborul cu elicopterul.
Scenariu cusut cu ata alba si un Cage plictisit sa joace mereu bine.

nu o sa spun decit ca un om este suma actiunilor sale. daca sunteti de acord cu mine, atunci acest Regizor este suma impresiilor pe care le creaza in mintea spectatorilor si asta il face unul din cei mai intersanti si competenti Regizori din zilele noastre!
