La Praga, în 1951, un înalt funcţionar
politic cehoslovac este acuzat de spionaj în favoarea Statelor Unite.
Totul este regizat pentru a-l determina pe bărbat, Artur London, să
mărturisească delicte pe care nu le-a comis. Sfârşeşte prin a a-şi
asuma în faţa instanţei crime închipuite, recitând mărturisiri
redactate chiar de către torţionarii lui.
După reabilitarea sa, în 1956, emigrează în Franţa şi, chiar dacă acuză
stalinismul, rămâne fidel idealurilor comuniste din tinereţe....
