Michael Byrne s-a născut la 07.11.1943, în Hampstead, Londra, Anglia, și a decedat la 20.06.2026. El a fost fiul lui Helen Byrne, o mamă singură, bucătăreasă, originară din Kilkenny. Michael a studiat actoria la Școala Centrală de Vorbire și Dramă, și-a început cariera teatrală cu Compania de Teatru Arena în 1962. În timp ce făcea turnee în Irlanda cu trupa, a întâlnit-o pe viitoarea sa soție, actrița Carole Nimmons. Până în 1963, Byrne era angajat la Old Vic în producții ale Teatrului Național, sub conducerea lui Laurence Olivier. A devenit un actor experimentat, a cărui muncă pe scenă l-a dus ulterior la Royal Exchange și West End-ul londonez, precum și la Teatrul Regal din Bath, unde a jucat rolul principal al unchiului Vania de Cehov. Cântecul său de lebădă teatral a avut loc în 2018, în rolul temnicerului reginei, Talbot, într-o reluare a Mariei Stuart la Teatrul Almeida din Londra. Pe ecran, el a rămas cunoscut pentru rolurile: subofițerul german din The Eagle Has Landed (1976), locotenent-colonelul Giles Alexander Meysey Vandeleur din epopeea de război A Bridge Too Far (1977), maiorul Schroeder în Force 10 from Navarone (1978), nemilosului ofițer SS, colonelul Ernst Vogel, din Indiana Jones și ultima cruciadă (1989), generalul Friedrich Olbricht din Complotul pentru uciderea lui Hitler (1990), un ofițer britanic, un comandant al Marinei Regale în thrillerul James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), un supraviețuitor evreu al Holocaustului în Apt Pupil (1998), bătrânul vrăjitor malefic Gellert Grindlewald în Harry Potter și Talismanele morții: Partea 1 (2010). La televiziune, Byrne a apărut în producții, precum: The Devil's Crown (1978), The Search for Alexander the Great (1981), Smiley's People (1982). A avut un rol recurent, omul de afaceri și fostul soldat Ted Page, un personaj obișnuit al serialului Coronation Street (2008-2010). Michael Byrne a încetat din viață la 82 de ani. În plan personal, Michael a fost căsătorit cu actrița Carole Nimmons; au avut o fiică, Tara Bryony; un nepot, Tom Byrne; două nepoate, Jasmine Byrne și Chloe Byrne.
