Nominalizarile pentru cele mai prestigioase premii din lumea filmului au fost anuntate in aceasta dupa-amiaza. Conferinta de presa a fost transmisa in direct pe site-ul Oscars.com. Cele mai multe nominalizari le-au obtinut anul acesta filmele "No Country for Old Men" si "There Will Be Blood". Ele au cate opt nominalizari, inclusiv la cele mai importante categorii. "Atonement" se afla de asemenea pe val la Oscarurile de anul acesta, cu sapte nominalizari. Cate Blanchett apare de doua ori pe lista: Cea mai buna actrita in rol principal - "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", Cea mai buna actrita in rol secundar - "I'm Not There". Ceremonia este programata pe 25 februarie, de la ora 3 dimineata. Totul depinde insa acum de situatia tensionata de la Hollywood cauzata de greva scenaristilor. Organizatorii Oscarurilor isi fac probleme legate nu numai de pregatirile acestui eveniment, care sunt deja in urma, ci si de boicotarea Oscarurilor de catre grevisti. Amanari au avut loc numai de trei ori in istoria Academiei Americane de Film: in 1938, din cauza inundatiilor, in 1968, din cauza asasinarii lui Martin Luther King Jr., si in 1981, in urma unei tentative de asasinat impotriva presedintelui american Ronald Reagan.
