Biografie

Cineastul Melvin Van Peebles (născut Melvin Peebles), tatăl actorului și regizorului Mario Van Peebles, a fost considerat ca fiind pionier al cinema-ului afro-american. El este cunoscut pentru producții ca „Watermelon Man” și „Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song”.

Considerat de mulți a fi nașul cinema-ului afro-american modern, Van Peebles i-a influențat pe unii ca Spike Lee și John Singleton.
