"Lazarescu" i-a impresionat si pe canadieni. Filmul a primit cronici magulitoare dupa Toronto. Urmatoarea e din "eye weekly", care i-a dat 4 stele din 5.

THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU

****

Dir Cristi Puiu w/ Ion Fiscuteanu, Luminta Gheorghiu. 154 min. Sep 9, 9:30am, Paramount; Sep 16, 7:30pm, Cumberland.

It ain't exactly the recipe for an art-house smash: 154 nearly real-time minutes in the life and imminent death of an elderly Romanian alcoholic as he is ferried by ambulance between hospitals. Yet Cristi Puiu's riveting and expertly realized second feature was the deserved hit of the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes, The Death of Mr. Lazarescu functioning equally well as a social-realist epic and a blackly comic, slyly allegorical satire. Adrift in a bureaucratic medical system that's more diseased than he could ever be, poor Lazarescu (Fiscuteanu) lives just long enough to learn there are things crueller than death.
