Despre Patrick O'Brian

Patrick O’Brian este unul dintre cei mai mari, desi putin cunoscuti, autori ai secolului XX. Romanele sale au fost deseori comparate cu operele lui Jane Austen si chiar Homer. O'Brian evocã cu multiple detalii o întreagã lume – aceea a marinarilor britanici din timpul rãzboaielor napoleoniene. Romanele sale au valoare documentarã, psihologicã si abundã de actiune.

Pe lângã romanele sale, O'Brian a scris biografii ale lui Joseph Banks si Picasso si a tradus din francezã în englezã romanele si memoriile lui Simone de Beauvoir si primul volum din biografia lui Charles De Gaulle scrisã de Jean Lacouture. În 1995, el a fost distins cu Premiul Heywood Hill pentru literaturã si a fost decorat, fiind numit Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). În 1997, i s-a acordat titlul onorific de doctor în litere de cãtre Colegiul Trinity din Dublin.
O'Brian a murit în ianuarie 2000.
