David Lynch a fost angajat de Mel Brooks să realizeze acest film a cărui atmosferă victoriană este foarte aproape de fantastic: imaginea în alb/negru semnată de Freddie Francis este superbă, iar efectele sonore potenteazp stranietatea subiectului.
