Hope s-a nascut in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A studiat la Academia Regala de Arta Dramatica (RADA) din Londra si a inceput sa joace teatru pe ambele maluri ale Atlanticului. Majoritatea din munca sa pe scena a constat in roluri importante intr-o larga varietate de teatre regionale, turnee si in teatrul West End din Anglia. Dupa ce a aparut in "Lords of Discipline", i s-a oferit un rol in filmul lui James Cameron "Aliens" (1986) ca Locotenent Gorman, pentru care a devenit celebru.

La putin timp dupa, a aparut in clasicul horror "Hellbound: Hellraiser 2" (1988), continuarea sequel-ului "Clive Barker's Hellraiser", in rolul lui Kyle McRae. Filmul a creat o multime de motive de disputa datorita naturii sale macabre si violente. Dupa Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, Hope isi incepe lucrul la filme teatrale in timp ce lucreaza destul de mult pe scena si la drama radio.

Observat in Shining Through (1992), The Saint (1997), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) si Triple X (2002), cel mai recent a jucat alaturi de Wesley Snipes in The Marksman (2005) si The Detonator (2006) si ca villain in filmul lui Steven Segal Submerged (2005). Recent a fost vazut in televiziune ca Harry Ramos in 9/11: The Twin Towers (2007), si ca presedinte al Lehman Brothers in "The Last Days of Lehman Brothers" (2009). Mai tarziu a fost vazut alaturi de Woody Harrelson in drama The Walker (2007) scrisa si regizata de legenda Hollywoodului Paul Schrader, in Sherlock Holmes (2009) cu Robert Downey Jr si in The Whistleblower (2010) cu Rachel Weisz. In 2007 el a fost invitat sa joace in drama audio Doctor Who, Renaissance of the Daleks. De asemenea s-a reintors spre genul horror, lucrand la Solar Film's, Dark Floors, lansat in Europa in 2008. El este auzit in mod regulat la BBC Radio si face parte din BBC "Broken News". Hope a jucat alaturi de staruri precum Sigourney Weaver, Michael Douglas, George C. Scott, Val Kilmer.

De asemenea, el a furnizat vocile pentru Edward, Percy si Toby in filmul Tomas & Friens: Hero of the Rails.

Hope a fost premiat de Aliens Legacy Gold la Collectormania 2008, in Glasgow.

Hope are o sotie si doi copii si locuieste mai mult in Londra. Fratele sau, Barclay Hope, este si el actor.
