Warning ! Fresh paint
Move along, there's nothing to see! In April 2018, the Museum "La Piscine de Roubaix" prepared to expand its exhibition space. In a period of six months, several thousand works had to be unhooked, dusted, restored, moved, and reinstalled. These are unique works for which any handling required extreme precautions. Bruno Gaudichon, curator and founder of the museum, had to employ and bring together several workers in ordert to complete a successful reopening.

Reputed to be the inventor of oil painting, the Flemish painter Jan van Eyck (1390-1441) is a major 15th century artist. In the late 18th century (between 1775 and 1779), Claude Nicolas Ledoux built a monumental factory for the King of France in Franche-Comté. A revolution in architecture, a decade before the full-blown Revolution. Without Camille Pissarro, there is no Impressionist movement. He is rightfully known as the father of Impressionism. It was a dramatic path that Pissarro followed, and throughout it all he wrote extensively to his family. Born in the West Indies, Pissarro found his passion in paint as a young man in Paris, and by the age of 43 had corralled a group of enthusiastic artists into a new collective. Private visit takes you to discover the exhibition « The Drawing Factory », an exposition of 33 contemporary artists in Paris, from March to September 2021. This exposition was initiated by Christine Phal, founder of Drawing Lab. It brought together 33 different cotemporary drawing artists that come from everywhere and who were selected. These artists have taken over an old hotel in order to pursue their projects or develop new ones. During this visit you’ll discover the singular universe of artists expressing their art in this ephemeral workshop, exposing abstract or surrealist works.

IT’S A HOT SUMMERS DAY IN Rome 1600, the year of the Jubilee. The entire Eternal City is a construction site: streets are full of scaffolding, dust clouds, loose cobblestones, the continuous banging of hammers and rasping of saws, carpenters with Lombard accents, errand boys shouting across the streets in Roman dialect, stevedores unloading barrels and crates from boats along the Tiber. The narrow streets in the town center are full of jostling tourists and monsignors rushing to get somewhere, and every once in a while the crowd parts to let a sedan chair or carriage of a cardinal through. Convent bells ring, droves of pilgrims mass along the routes connecting the old basilicas, reciting the rosary as they go. Not a day goes by without the opening of a new church, an oratory, or a chapel. Founded at the end of the 19th century by the collector Richard Wallace, this private museum in London houses a truly beautiful collection of European paintings. Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) is a German Romantic painter who concentrated mainly on landscape art, which he rendered in minute detail. He was rediscovered at the end of the 19th century. A melancholy character, he peopled his canvases with human figures seen from behind, contemplating the enormity of nature, for example in his famous “The Wanderer above the Mists” in Hamburg or the “Chalk Cliffs on Rügen”.
