Sezonul 1 - Episodul 39 - Dawn of Impressionism: Paris 1874
The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history - millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But, to begin with, they were scorned, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists, “hungry for independence”, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever.
What led to that first groundbreaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists, press and people of Paris, 1874. See the show that changed everything on the big screen. |

The Grand Palais is currently undergoing the most extensive renovation in its history. The film, directed by Stefan Cornic, tells the story of the current and past renovation projects. It looks back at the many transformations and events the building has hosted since its inauguration for the 1900 Universal Exhibition.
The building is scheduled to reopen in three stages: during the 2024 Olympic Games, when it will host fencing and taekwondo competitions in the nave; in 2025, when the Réunion des musées nationaux galleries will open to the general public; and in 2026, when the Palais de la Découverte will unveil its new exhibition spaces. |

Sezonul 1 - Episodul 12 - Fragonard
A native of the southern French town of Grasse, Jean-Honoré Fragonard is one of the most important 18th century French painters. He studied at the French Academy in Rome but chose to be free in his work, preferring to carry out private commissions, some of which were licentious, such as “The Shirt Withdrawn” exposed at the Louvre. The “Fanciful Figure” exposed at the Louvre-Lens demonstrates an original and very modern style. One of his masterpieces is without doubt the painting “The Bolt”, in the collection of the Louvre in Paris.

Sezonul 1 - Episodul 29 - Pissarro: Father of Impressionism
Without Camille Pissarro, there is no Impressionist movement. He is rightfully known as the father of Impressionism.
It was a dramatic path that Pissarro followed, and throughout it all he wrote extensively to his family. It is through these intimate and revealing letters that this gripping film reveals Pissarro’s life and work.
Born in the West Indies, Pissarro found his passion in paint as a young man in Paris, and by the age of 43 had corralled a group of enthusiastic artists into a new collective. Their first show was scorned by the critics, but the group had acquired a new name: the Impressionists. For the next 40 years Pissarro was the driving force behind what has today become the world’s favourite artistic movement.
The Ashmolean Museum has a long tradition of excellence. As the UK’s first ever public museum (it opened its doors in May 1683) it houses a wonderfully rich collection, including the remarkable Pissarro archive. With exclusive access to most extensive archive of |

A key artist of the Italian Renaissance, Raffaello Santi (1483-1520) developed a classical art form, based on drawing, which made him the model for many painters in the following centuries. His favourite theme was the Madonna: you can admire, for example, “The Sistine Madonna” in Dresden and the “The Virgin and Child with St John the Baptist” in the Louvre. Notice the gentle harmony and the delicate sensuality in “The Three Graces” or the powerful human presence in “The Portrait of Baldassare Castiglione”.

Born in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France, Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) was a great French painter of the second half of the 19th century. Impressionist artist first, he is a initiator of the post-impressionnisme and the cubisme in his labour. In his still lifes and his “Bathers”, he is innovative in his geometric forms, which influenced the Cubist artists who came after him. He chose to paint the “Mont Saint Victoire” twenty times in his landscapes. Note the beautiful simplicity of “Apples and Oranges” composition or the quiet concentration of his “Card Players” both exposed at the Orsay museum.
