A garden. Behind, there is a little house in wood, with red flowers in the window; it’s decorated with dry corn that is hanging in front of the door, little hearts and birds are above the windows colored in red, a huge garden gnome, smiling, with a sign Welcome in his hands is standing in front of the door.
The garden itself is full of garden gnomes in different sizes; it’s very cultivated, the grass is mown short; the bushes are cut in different forms, little fountains with fishes and Greek statues in stone are standing in the garden, as well as a bench in massive iron; beside stands a lamp, about two meters high. It’s a little garden with a green fence around it.

It seems to be a perfect picture, but as we approach, we can see that all of the gnomes are deformed - one hand of the huge smiling garden gnome is missing for example; other gnomes have no legs etc.

It is late in the afternoon. The door opens, an old lady, at about the age of 85, comes slowly into the garden; she seems to be old and weak; the years have buckled her back. She is leaning on a younger woman, who is in her 40´s; they move slowly towards the bench, sit down.
Silence.

After a while the old starts whining, with a low, broken voice:
Young lady, please bring me to my mommy, we will make you a present, everything you like; we have a huge garden and my father must give it up now, he can not do his work anymore and he can not keep the people, it’s too expensive.
The young doesn’t say anything.
The old: Please, young lady…
After a while, the young stands up, walks around in the garden and starts singing: A maiden young and tender went at the break of the day into a flowery garden, so happy and so gay…
The old: Please, my father – I am his only daughter. We have a huge garden…I have to help him…They are waiting for me…
The young stops, looks around, becomes silent, sits down and whispers: It’s not so huge, when I was young it looked huge, it scared me with all the garden gnomes – when you locked me out in the dark - but it’s little, little and sweet, everything is little and sweet; the old who is begging for her mummy, senile woman, how little and sweet, little and sweet she is…
The old: Please…Young lady, they are waiting for me…
The young does not say anything, silence. It’s getting darker and darker….Suddenly the young switches the garden lamp on, she looks into the garden, seems to get into trance…she looks around, whispers:
Watch, mommy, there are too many of them, all color in their face is gone now, no flesh, no blood, no hair and you alone –
The young starts to move around in the garden: Too many gnomes and you alone with them in the dark…please, tell them to stop! Stop! Stop!
She starts to sing: Be still, be still, my pretty love, be still, be still, just do not move, else you will wake up father; else you will wake up mother, that will not be good for you nor me…
She looks around hectically and finally pulls out a hedge shears behind a bush.
Yes, what did mommy do to you? You were little and there were too many of them, watching you, so you could not escape…you had to wait for him…
While she speaks, she gets on her knees and crawls around with the hedge shears; she starts to cut parts of the garden gnomes. From the old woman we only hear some words, very unclear words, about the garden, her mother and father etc.
Young woman: But I can cut you, I can harm you, I can torture you, you can’t dictate me anything, you won´t tell him, when he is coming, you wont, because I cut you in peaces…
She sings while she crawls and cuts: And when they touched her youthful heart the tender maid lay there, benumbed by fear and pain...
Suddenly the door of the garden opens, a man comes in, sees the old on the bench and the young in the garden.
The old: Please,Death, let me live on, take all the servants instead. My father if he finds me will give you presents, everything you like, we have a huge garden and…
The man goes over to the lamp, turns it off.
