Cateva repere foarte generale pentru filmul noir: sunt filme produse in SUA intre 1940-1959, filmate alb-negru si dominate de o atmosfera intunecata/pesimista. Sunt destule exceptii si de la aceste coordonate (filme noir aparute inainte de 1940 si dupa 1959, produse in alte tari sau filmate color) dar pe mine nu ma intereseaza filmele neo-noir ori cele straine (gen Rififi).
