With the big one out of the way (the Friday The 13th remake), it’s time to look forward to the other potentially great horror movies of 2009.
The line-up features the usual mix of sequels (Final Destination 4), remakes (Sorority Row), sequels to remakes (Halloween 2), and original fare (Drag Me To Hell). Japanese horror and torture porn are on the way out, and old school slashers are drifting back in. But the horror genre is basically waiting for the next break-out hit (aka Blair Witch or The Ring) to copycat.
So here’s Movie-Moron’s definite Horror Movies 2009 Guide:
Alternative title could be ‘The Last Remake Left’. The 1972 original is much loved and analysed by genre enthusiasts, but let’s face it, it’s pretty rough when it comes to production values. The story tells of two dumbass girls who get kidnapped and left for dead by a gang. The same gang are then forced to hole up at the home of one of the victim’s parents. The parents figure out what’s happened and dispatch the gang members in gruesome fashion. Imagine elements of Saw, but the torturers are the good guys. Actually, think Guantanamo. The director is totally untested, but the trailer looked solid enough.
