DTH Magic
Romania prepares DTH platform
Media Expres reports that the Bucharest-based DTH Television Group has been awarded licences to operate four TV and one radio channel on a new DTH platform. Due to launch in July, they will be distributed by Spacecom’s Amos-1 satellite and, in the case of the four TV channels, allocate 85% of their airtime to movies and the remainder to in-house productions. The first TV channel, known as Classic Magic, will air classic movies made before 1985 every two hours for 16 hours daily, while the second, named Magic X, will show five hours of adult programming daily. The third, called Magic Action, will meanwhile broadcast blockbusters for 16 hours daily, and the fourth, Magic Box, comedies and light movies. The channels will form part of a 16-channel DTH offer that will be available in three packages ranging in price from $5 (€4.10) to $12 a month. Reception equipment will cost $180 and take-up of the platform is expected to highest in rural areas where there are currently no cable services available.
